Have you ever clicked on the webinar section of our Chronic Pain Partners website and looked through the archives of the presentations featured? In 2013, our founder, John Ferman, started this highly popular educational series with a clear mission to provide free access to emerging research interpreted by experienced physicians.
Wow, did he succeed!
Looking through this library, featuring 95 webinars, is like traveling back in time. You can see the historical evolution of our medical understanding of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and the many co-occurring conditions and life challenges it can bring. This archive is a “who’s who” of pioneering physicians who contributed to advancing EDS research and providing clinical validation. It includes early attempts to educate the medical world about the harm caused by misdiagnosis and gaslighting, and it is a resource that many have turned to as a way to help explain their condition and symptoms to physicians, friends, and family.
The first 2013 webinar featured pediatric pain physician Dr. Ken Goldschneider of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital who stated that “chronic pain” and “hypermobility” were never spoken about in the same sentence in mainstream medicine. Dr. Anne Maitland was raising awareness of the role of mast cells as early as 2014, the same year Dr. Pradeep Chopra gave his groundbreaking, four-part “Connecting The Dots” EDS lecture series, which served as a foundational guide for many practicing physicians over the years.
Information is more readily available online than ever before, but unfortunately, social media and AI can also be breeding grounds for misinformation. “With so much new research and so many emerging treatment options, it can be incredibly difficult for patients to know what information they can trust,” explains Chronic Pain Partners Editor-in-Chief and Director of Programs Jacqueline Teti. “Patients—and physicians—need access to reliable, evidence-based information. That’s why we’re excited to relaunch our webinar series. We want to return to our roots and continue serving as a trusted educational resource for the community. Just as importantly, we want to ensure these webinars remain free. That’s how John started them, and that’s how we want them to stay. At Chronic Pain Partners, we believe everyone should have access to trustworthy information so they can make the best, most informed decisions about their health.”
The Return Begins August 14
The relaunch of our CPP webinar series begins on August 14th at 12:00 pm EDT. Professor Mark S. Whiteley, a world-renowned expert in varicose veins, pelvic congestion syndrome, and venous disease, and founder of The Whiteley Institute in the UK, will be presenting on:
“Pelvic Congestion and Venous Compression Syndromes – What Do We Know, What Is Likely to Be True, and What Is Hype?”
Professor Whiteley has years of experience treating patients with EDS. In 1999, Professor Whiteley performed the UK’s first endovenous varicose vein operation, sparking the “endovenous revolution” away from traditional vein-stripping surgery. He went on to invent the TRLOP procedure in 2001, perform Europe’s first endovenous microwave treatment for varicose veins, and, in May 2019, become the first doctor in the UK (and only the second in the world) to treat varicose veins with High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) Echo therapy.
This highly accomplished provider also founded The College of Phlebology in 2011 and, in 2019, launched its Venous Registry, providing a database for doctors to benchmark outcomes and a resource to help patients find physicians who have had positive results.
Following the presentation, we’ll host a live Q&A with Professor Whiteley, so be sure to bring your questions!
