About our speaker:

⦁   Dr. O’Leary is currently an Associate Adjunct Professor in philosophy at University of Maryland University College
⦁   She is the former executive director of the Coalition for Diagnostic Rights

⦁   Dr. O’Leary is the former director of the Sneddon’s Foundation, which assisted patients and doctors struggling to manage Sneddon’s syndrome, a rare neurological disorder generally misdiagnosed as psychogenic.

⦁   She is a philosopher whose work aims to clarify the relation of mind and body in symptoms construed as psychogenic, as well as the rights of patients and the obligations of medical providers in cases of diagnostic uncertainty.

⦁   Dr. O’Leary’s work on psychogenic diagnosis has been featured by ABC News online and The Blaze, and covered by New York Daily News and FOX affiliates.

⦁   Her writing has appeared in the Boston Globe, at the British Medical Journal, Huffington Post, Psychology Today, Psychiatric Times, at the website for the Danish Parliament, and the website of the National Organization for Rare Disorders.

⦁   Dr. O’Leary was a visiting scholar, during the month of February, 2016, at the Hastings Center for Bioethical Research and Public Policy in Garrison, NY.

⦁   She is at work on a book called “All in Your Head: How Medicine’s Best Kept Secret Threatens Us All”.
