Our Speaker:

Dr. Lavallee is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine. He has Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, classical type.  He is a co-investigator with the NIH on a study looking at Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Marfan’s Syndrome with Nazli McDonnell, MD, PhD.  Dr. Lavalle  joined the Ehlers-Danlos National Foundation in 1987.  He spoke at many of their national conferences.

NOTE: This presentation focuses on athletes with EDS in the context of Sports Medicine. Dr. Lavallee shares his experiences and passion to motivate patients to stay active.  Success stories represent results that may be achievable for some, but not all patients. Each individual’s fitness level and abilities are unique and should progress slowly and carefully under the guidance of a knowledgeable Physical Therapist.   Always listen to your body and respect your limitations. We hope this will encourage you to stay as active as you can!

About our speaker: Mark E. Lavallee, M.D

Dr. Lavallee is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine:

  • Dr. Lavallee is renowned as a leader in the field of sports medicine
  • He enjoys speaking at many national conferences
  • He has Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, classical type

EDUCATION:

– Dr. Lavallee received both his undergraduate and medical school degrees from Pennsylvania State University.

– He completed a family practice residency at York Hospital in York, PA.

– Dr. Lavallee received a sports medicine fellowship at the Crozer-Keystone Health System in Philadelphia, PA.

– He acquired the C.A.Q. in sports medicine and his certification as Strength and Condition Specialist from the NSCA.

AFFILIATIONS AND EXPERTISE:

– Dr. Lavallee currently practices at York Hospital / WellSpan Health System in York, PA which serves central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland. He is Director of the York Hospital Sports Medicine Fellowship Program at WellSpan.

– He has a faculty appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor to Penn State and Drexel University School of Medicine.

– Dr. Lavallee is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine.

– He is the Team Physician and Chairman for USA Weightlifting, he has covered numerous national and international events.

– Dr. Lavallee has been the Medical Director for several athletic events, including the World Masters Weightlifting championships, Olympic Team trials, and US Fencing National Championship.

– He was the Medical Co-director at the South Bend Notre Dame Sports Medicine Fellowship from 1999-2013, and the head Team Physician for Indiana University South Bend and University of Notre Dame men’s soccer team.

– Dr. Lavallee has authored numerous papers and book chapters on various topics in sports medicine. He was an active member of AMSSM board member and chairman of the fellowship committee from 2003-2007.

– Dr. Lavallee joined the Ehlers Danlos National Foundation in 1987.  He spoke at many of their national conferences. He served on the EDNF’s board of directors from 2000-2005, where he created the Professional Advisory Network, upon which he currently serves.

– He is a co-investigator with the NIH on a study looking a Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Marfan’s Syndrome with Nazli McDonnell, MD, PhD.

– Since 2002, Dr. Lavallee has had a monthly multi-disciplinary Ehlers-Danlos Clinic covering the specialties of cardiology, orthopedics, physical therapy, pain management, and exercise physiology.

– He is currently part of an AMSSM task force working with National Marfan Foundation to better delineate guidelines of diagnosis and activity recommendations.
