Petition to Remove Dairy Ingredients From Medications
Petition by Ellen Lenox Smith.
Many EDSers experience lactose allergies or intolerance. Please sign this petition to discourage the use of lactose fillers/binders which are frequently added to prescriptions. The collection of signatures and comments is needed for a follow-up letter to the FDA about adding dairy to medications.
The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) estimates that 30-50 million Americans are lactose intolerant. It is especially prevalent in the elderly population. As you are most likely aware, as we age, we are less efficient at being able to metabolize dairy. However, lactose fillers and binders are the prime choice when making medications.
Millions of Americans may not know it is the lactose in their medication causing them problems. There are many who have no understanding why they are not feeling right.
Please sign this petition to suggest that manufacturers use fillers that more people can tolerate. Examples of alternate fillers are provided on the petition page.
